# Staying the Course

History

GHF has been established by Tom Amatt and a team of friends in November 2017 at Basel, Switzerland.

Amatt, a Sinologist by education, has spent his life as an independent entrepreneur in Asia and Europe with a lasting interest in the issues of the mind as well as regeneration of a healthy environment.

His encounter and friendship with John Graham and Ann Medlock (www.giraffe.org) had brought about the idea for a Giraffe Heroes Foundation.

During the covid-crisis it became apparent that GHF had to reformulate its values and thus became redefined as Fondation GHF – Guardians of Humanity. The hashtag “Stick your Neck out” was changed to “Staying the Course” and the Giraffe became Qilin-Giraffe, whereby Qilin refers to the Giraffe in East-Asia since the 16th century and, as a mythological animal, heralds the arrival of a Guardian of Humanity.
 

Amatt understands his role as that of a facilitator: those people attracted by the idea of the Giraffe Heroes Project have to be brought together, interactive platforms need to be formed and impact has to be created.

The Foundation

The Foundation, was set up in the fall of 2017 and registered as an official Swiss not for profit organization. It is an initiative to provide a platform for the commendation and support of individuals in Europe who fit the ideals of Qilin-Giraffe/Guardian of Humanity.

Situated in Switzerland it is open to candidates from all over the World and moreover is seeking to make a connection on a global level as demanded from our times. At present GHF works like an NGO, dependent on individual support.

GHF while being incorporated as a Swiss Foundation with the respective tax-advantages applying – see Transparency and Tax Status – is run like an NGO with the purpose of identifying and supporting Guardian-Personalities, which means fundraising is a vital issue.

Fields of activity

Joint Engagement of Guardian-Personalities for Dedicated Topics

The first such project was “Giraffes Coping with Climate Crisis”, which links five personalities and their individual platforms in different regions of Europe and brings their work to wider public attention by lectures, publications and retreats alike. This enables direct engaging help by anyone taking environmental and climate issues serious and frees a host of synergetic effects among a growing community. ….

GHF has been set up and is headed by Tom Anmatt together with the board and is supported by the Friends of GHF. Tom, a Sinologist, has started and run a number of companies doing business in China. When he accidentally came across John Grahams book “On the Edge” he was so impressed that he sought contact with the author, out of which a precious friendship developed which in turn has led him to form GHF in the fall of 2017, seeking to spread John Grahams and Ann Medlocks Giraffe-Project in Europe. Tom understands his role as that of a facilitator: those people attracted by the idea of the Qilin-Giraffe Project have to be brought together, interactive platforms need to be formed and impact has to be created.

The Jury

Next to the GHF Board and the Friends of GHF the most important body in advising on the organization’s work in general and deciding upon the commendation of Guardians of Humanity in particular, is undertaken by the Jury. Members are as follows:

Angela Feng

Angela is a graduate in English from Xuzhou University. Previously she has worked as an interpreter for the World Bank and local government offices in her home province of Hebei. Later on she worked in various consulting positions from where she derived an interest in medical issues. Some 20 years ago she became a cofounder and director of the company which today has become Sorehsa Holding, a joint-venture in rehabilitative and preventive medicine, headquartered in Basel, Switzerland and with main activities concentrated in China. On a personal basis Angela is devoted to the study and exploration of Classical Chinese Medicine.

Christian Ostheimer
IT Specialist (SPB Linux), Basel

Christian is a devoted programmer as well as engaged teacher in physics and philosophy. He is interested in mind and matter in a comprehensive way and a dedicated supporter of the Giraffe Concept of personal courage, mindful independence and the common good as he sees it.

Ralph

Ralph is a trusted accountant with interests and talents in many fields. He accompanies GHF with tireless engagement since its inception.

Acqua di Basilea

Acqua is a pediatrician and an enthusiast for proper causes, especially with a view to education and guidance in health issues but does not shy away from political issues with equal fervor. Helge has actively supported the GHF project since the day it arrived in Switzerland. – She has studied medicine in Herdecke, Paris and Basel, specializing in Neuro-Pediatrics, furthermore she is a qualified homeopath from Zurich University and practitioner of craneosakraltherapeutics from Sphinx Institute, Basel.

Marion Ammann

“Where injustice becomes justice opposition becomes a duty”. Marion is an exceptional singer and musician with an inherent concern for a just and fair society.
